I was in the right place at the right time and saved it from said dumpster. It is currently hosting about 4TB of backups, system images, and Linux ISOs, with a total of 10TB of storage and a mass SSD upgrade in the works. The server is running in RAID5 with two logical volumes. I have installed VMWare ESXi 7 on it, and it is configured to be almost completely headless. Through this project, I have taught myself the basics of server-grade hardware and software, including setting up Active Directory, a VPN, NAS, virtual machines, and networking. But of course, that wasn't enough, so I kept adding things and eventually ordered a rack to get the server off the ground. = I recently built a PXE server just to say I could - I ended up having to install a second NIC in the PXE machine and run it off a Craigslist router running DD-WRT. It looks like a total mess (because it is), but it works. On the top rack sits a 2015 Mac Mini running Ubuntu Server, which hosts my containerized Minecraft server, and a Raspberry Pi 4 as a lightweight entry point for my network over Tailscale. You may notice the weird white fan behind the Mac Mini. That's the Raspberry Pi - when I deployed it in university, I was too poor to afford a PiHat, so I used a $5 USB fan. It still works, so I never got rid of it. My server uses HPE iLO, but I don't keep it running as it uses 200W of power at idle, so the Raspberry Pi is used to remote into the network so I can turn on the server from iLO, usually to watch things from Plex. I recently purchased a KVM for my PXE server and main server, as well as Jon Bringus' "Dirty Cherry Keyboard." I also have a 3D Printer. it runs over USB to Cat5e extenders, and is a NewMatter MOD-T that I purchased from the back of a coworker's Jeep Wrangler for $40. It has saved me an amazing amount of money on mounting and storage solutions. Vertical images were shot on an iPhone 15 using Snapchat, and other images were shot on a Canon EOS 1200D, including a close-up of my face that I took while experimenting with a new camera lens and its broken AF motor.
